How We See God

Close study of the disciples’ encounter with Jesus suggests a larger conversation about how we encounter God. Discipleship today must begin with the clearest possible idea of how we currently understand God.

Purpose: To see God in nature, and think deliberately about your current view of God.

Activity: If at all possible, you will need a place where you can go outdoors—by yourself. You will not need much preparation. Go to a garden or a park or some other outdoor environment near where you live. Go outside and take some time to enjoy the world and to collect a few items that tell you something significant about God’s character.

(Another option would be to view several nature programs on video or on TV and list several insights that you draw about God’s character.)

Think about it: The face of God we see in nature teaches us things about God. When you see His face in this way, what most impresses you?

Do we see all we might need to know about God when we see Him only in nature?*
